Hico, Texas - 10/01/06 - The Joy Box is named after breast cancer survivor, Joy Heatherly, who is the mother of Wiseman House Director of Corporate Sales, Jayson Berryhill. Joy was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 1999, and after a lumpectomy in December of that year she began her six week radiation treatment. Joy is faithful to have a thorough checkup every six months, and this year she will have been cancer free for six years. Wiseman House is proud to honor Joy and other breast cancer survivors during the month of October.

This is the second journey in 2006 that Wiseman House Chocolates has made with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The first was in March at the Austin Chocolate Festival of 2006, benefiting the foundation, where chocolatier Kevin Wenzel’s Wild Woman truffle took the Best Truffle of the Year award.

During the month of October, 25% of every Joy Box purchased will be donated to the Austin Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Hico, Texas - 9/09/06 - This October (7-8) Wiseman House Chocolates will be showcasing their fine chocolates at the National Center for Women in the Arts located adjacent to the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX during the foundation’s Annual Open House. Each year, artist and chocolatier, Kevin Wenzel, looks forward to showing off his chocolate creations at culinary art shows and other events throughout Texas. Kevin, a former visual artist whose confectioner father suggested that he make chocolate his medium, provides the whimsical and artistic flair that immediately brings a smile to customer’s faces at his chocolate store in Hico, Texas. For ten years Kevin has been creating hand rolled, hand dipped chocolates in this delightful town and in that time his reputation as an artist and chocolatier has spread due to appearances in local and national publications. His pride and joy, the ‘Wild Woman’ truffle received the Best Truffle award at the Austin Chocolate festival this past March. The ‘Wild Woman’ will most certainly make an appearance at Open House in Marfa.

Hico, Texas - 9/05/06 - For the past ten years Wiseman House Fine Handmade Chocolates has been building up a reputation of quality and craftsmanship in the world of artisan chocolates. In their renovated Victorian style home Kevin and LaDonne Wenzel began to share these delicacies with the people of their small town, it did not take long for word to spread beyond the city limits. Today, the Wiseman House family of stores is still about quality and craftsmanship whether at their chocolate store, or at their downtown women’s boutique called Bliss Living. Bliss is lcoated in an old bank building that has been renovated to house the chocolate production area where the vaults used to be. When you walk into Bliss Living you feel as if you have walked into a romantic boutique in Paris and as you make your way to the back of the shop you are overtaken by the sweet aroma of chocolates being hand dipped behind the beautiful glass French doors.

But that’s not all… The trend that Kevin and LaDonne Wenzel began ten years ago by bringing their unique stores to Hico has been growing over the past several years with the coming of such distinctive stores as The Western Otter, Room Number 5, and Homestead Furniture. Hico is quickly becoming known for being the best shopping experience to be found in the DFW area—that is right outside the DFW area.

Hico, Texas - 8/22/06 - It was ten years ago in 1996 that Kevin and LaDonne Wenzel made the decision to move from Dallas to Hico, Texas, a small town situated on the cusp of the Texas Hill Country. After purchasing a Queen Anne Victorian style home, built by an artist named Rufus Wiseman in 1903, this young couple opened the Wiseman House to the public for the purpose of serving their delectable treats.

Very soon after opening their doors, unknown to Kevin and LaDonne, a reporter for the Fort Worth Star Telegram stumbled upon their unique shop and purchased some of their fine chocolates. Not long after that an article appeared in the Star Telegram entitled, “Chocolate Heaven”. Indeed, this reporter had it correct. Since then these chocolates have been featured in several local and national publications including Southern Living, Texas Highways and Texas Monthly. In fact, Texas Monthly claimed Wiseman House Chocolates as the best Christmas gift of the year 2000.

Within a couple of years of opening Wiseman House Chocolates, LaDonne had the desire to begin her own retail dream called Bliss Living. Bliss, a ladies boutique located in an old bank building in downtown Hico, draws customers from coast to coast with its unique French style and decor. Along with providing an inspiring shopping expereince, Bliss is made even more unique by the fact that it doubles as the chocolate production area for Wiseman House Chocolates. Customers are able to watch the fine art of chocolate creation in the remodeled and glassed in vaults located at the back of the store.

Over the years, Wiseman House has claimed many fans, both the local connoisseur and the traveler passing through. In that time it has evolved from a country store image to a fine chocolate shop that is now online and ships nationwide. Today Wiseman House Chocolates strives to maintain the same level of quality and customer service that made this shop a "Chocolate Heaven" ten years ago.
